Dayrwan approaches the concept of belonging using the means of photomontage, contrasting photos reflecting the different realities lived in the city. As an artist and an immigrant living in Leipzig, Dayrwan examines the increasing complexity of calling a place home in times of rising political and social tensions in Germany. While the passage of time may bring familiarity and comfort, the displacement from one’s homeland continues to cast a long shadow, prompting a constant negotiation between embracing the new place and yearning for a lost home. Superimposing pictures on top of each other, the artist creates busy scenes from the street of Leipzig, loaded with details, like looking through a kaleidoscope of thoughts, feelings and memories.
