Abscission Layer 2024
I approach the concept of belonging using the means of photomontage, contrasting photos reflecting the different realities lived in the city. As an artist and an immigrant living in Leipzig, I examine the increasing complexity of calling a place home in times of rising political and social tensions in Germany. While the passage of time may bring familiarity and comfort, the displacement from one’s homeland continues to cast a long shadow, prompting a constant negotiation between embracing the new place and yearning for a lost home. Superimposing pictures on top of each other, I create busy scenes from the street of Leipzig, loaded with details, like looking through a kaleidoscope of thoughts, feelings and memories.
